Polly do Eurotrash

The dancefloor was full when DJ Jimmy Dee turned up the music to start to latest Polly’s dance and show at Marrickville Town Hall. The crowd of about 500 were amazed as the Polly’s girls presented “Eurotrash”. Host for the evening was the ever delightful Daisy May (aka Daisnythtia Turnhimover) and stunning co-host Wanda A lot (aka Wanda Runeryouover).

No country was safe as acts all over Europe were contestants in this hilarious show to win the coveted Eurotrash trophy. Even a famous foursome from Sweden, and the beautiful bearded lady from Austria loosened their vocal cords and strutted their stuff.

Many of the patrons dressed to the nines with prizes going to the best dressed. One regular told me that Polly’s was the only place where she could dress in drag and just be herself without fear of harm or ridicule.

Every dance sees patrons free to be themselves at this safe venue. Polly’s provides a show and a dance 4 times per year, with money being given to charities via the annual grant. At Eurotrash the raffle was for hampers of Gourmet European grocery goodies and vouchers or products from the major sponsors including a set of rings, nights away and cash vouchers.

A LITTLE ABOUT POLLY’S CLUB

The Polly’s Club was formed in July 1964. The club started with six members one of whom was an islander known as Polly, hence the name Polly-nesian was adopted. With the onset of the AIDS epidemic, Polly’s became fund raisers for AIDS charities and became a major support to the E10 West Ward in the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, and Royal Prince Henry Hospital (the coast hospital). The Club also raised much needed funds for the newly formed Bobby Goldsmith Foundation (BGF) and many other causes. These days money raised by Polly’s is distributed to causes via the annual grants program.

The Polly’s club is looking for new members who would like to volunteer their services in helping to make the show a success.  The Polly’s crew do more that shed their clothes to put on a show, they shed sweat and tears and the occasional drop of blood. Quite often you will see Miss Daisy May with her shoes off pushing a broom or stacking chairs after a show. Polly’s is having an info night for people who think they might like to volunteer. This will be held on Wednesday 11th November at 7:30pm. There is a video and talks from members to explain just what is done to make the show the big success it is. There will be nibbles and drinks and you may even get to see rehearsals for the upcoming Santa’s Little Helpers show “Naughty or Nice”.

For more info contact the Polly’s club on info@thepollysclub.com.au or phone 9560 4736.

Polly’s is teaming up with Dykes on Bikes, Harbour City Bears, and the Sydney Leather Pride to present “No Trivial Matter” Saturday 21st November in Marrickville Town Hall. 7pm is the start time for this trivia night like no other. It will be hosted by drag star Portia Turbo with a show from Polly’s during the night. There will be prizes during the night as well as raffles and a bar with food and drinks. Please note this is not a BYO event. For presale bookings go to www.eticket.com

The next Polly’s club dance and show will be Saturday 5th December when Polly’s does “Naughty or Nice” a Polly’s Christmas. As usual there will be lucky door prizes, a raffle, and prizes for the best dressed. Bookings@thepollysclub.com.au and don’t forget to like www.facebook.com/pollys.sydney
