Mother’s Day with Tia Maria

For many of us, Mother’s Day is a day to celebrate the women who have been and continue to be our biggest supporters. Luckily for my Mum and I we were invited to an afternoon of bottomless Tia Maria espresso martinis and afternoon tea at Sydney’s Junk Lounge.

I’m a massive coffee lover and loved trying the many experimental martinis on offer, which were created especially for the event. A personal fave was the ‘Shard and Salt’, which combined Tia Maria, chocolate bitters and a snap of caramel glass into a heavenly created drink. Another crowd pleaser was the Café Breve, which was topped with marshmallow foam.

Junks Lounge specialises in Asian fusion and ancient spice flavours – which meant we were in for an exotic afternoon tea. Dishes included tempura mushroom steam buns, Malay chicken skewers, and Kimchi sweet potato dumplings. For dessert, we were served Tia Maria chocolate mousse with cherry compote. It almost looked too pretty to eat but was definitely enjoyed by many.

It was an afternoon my Mum and I will cherish for years to come, I’m sure over a Tia Maria espresso martini or two.
