VIVID Sydney: Waves – A showcase of music and art

Vivid Sydney has treated Sydney siders to yet another unique collaborative experience for your eyes, ears and mind to indulge in. Independent Swedish music production company The Kennel have launched an affiliate operation right here in Australia and to celebrate hosted ‘Waves: a showcase of music and art’ at the much-loved Oxford Art Factory in collaboration with content creation master’s yeahsure.

The night was destined to be a success with the killer line-up including Gold Fields, Hazlett, Moza and Peta and the wolves. As we arrived at the venue we walked through the mesh curtain to reveal an excitable crowd gathered around the stage. Interactive light installations engaged the gig-goers and included a gamer controlled projection piece.

The first artist of the night sent hearts fluttering with his butter wouldn’t melt notes. Hazlett hails from Brisbane and has just been on tour with Little Birdy’s Katy Steele. The talented singer songwriter had an unassuming but commanding presence on stage as he performed tracks from his new EP ‘Honey, where is my home’ with an unrivalled softness. His heartfelt lyrics from ‘Cool it child’ hit hard and the audience was hooked.

Peta Jeffress and bandmate Gabriel Wagnberg proved to be a match made in electronic indie heaven. Throughout the whole set they vibe off each others infectious energy and as Peta hits the high notes, Gabriel is right up there with her. Be sure to check out their hypnotic new single ‘Equal Measure.’

Headliners Gold Fields were a highlight of the night playing hits from their critically acclaimed album ‘Black Sun’ including crowd favourites Dark Again and Treehouse. The band are currently perfecting to their new album so be sure to keep your eyes out for fresh material.

Sydney natives Cam Nacson and Toby Chew make up passionate electronic duo Moza and the guys were more than happy to keep the unrelenting crowd dancing with their pop-infused tracks till the early hours. Live performance is their territory and the light show accompanying the set was a psychedelic dream. Colossal end to a mega showcase.
