Bellevue Hill Bottle Shop rosé tasting

Bellevue Hill Bottle Shop hosted their first free rosé tasting, offering clients a taste of over 40 from their hand picked selection. The shop is in a beautiful location on Bellevue Road and has a lovely independent feel to it, much more of a destination location than your local bottle shop.

The staff in Bellevue are extremely welcoming and definitely skilled at helping you navigate your way through their extensive wine selection. The subject of wine can be intimidating to some, and it is easy to exclude people from fancy wine talk. For instance, I drink wine almost every day (just being honest with you guys!) but don’t necessarily have a great deal of knowledge about different regions and grape varieties. However, I am always eager to learn.

A personal highlight from the tasting was Domaines Ott Clos de Mireille, Cotes de Provence 2015. This particular rosé is considered one of the finest in the world, and one I would highly recommend trying if you like your rosé with floral notes and a hint of strawberry. The bottle design is flawless and just as elegant as the wine itself.

A wine which divided opinion amongst my group was actually from a local winemaker Stuart Olsen, who has been making diverse wines under his brand ‘A Boy with Fruit’ very successfully for a number of years now. This particular wine we tried was Dry Black Muscat 2015, Mudgee NSW. The colour is much darker than a traditional rosé and has a strong dark fruity smell. The taste is musky yet the red fruits still come through, reminding me of Mediterranean wines and making me feel like I could be sat on the beach in Spain. This can only be a good thing. If you are looking to try something a bit more interesting be sure to try out Olsen’s selection.

Bellevue Bottle Shop is definitely worth a trip whether you are a wine connoisseur or just someone who enjoys drinking wine and wants some recommendations from friendly and knowledgeable staff.
