The Riverside Theatre opened its doors to welcome the audience of ‘Rumour Has It – The Show’. In the show, Naomi Price, from The Voice Australia, took over the role of international superstar Adele. The show was supposed to bring to live Adele’s life story in song and monologue.
The stage design was reduced but intriguing with old-style lamps hanging above the stage. They produced an interesting play with light. Naomi Price had a six-piece band with her on stage, which created a great image and a fantastic live performance. The musical quality was outstanding and anybody could hear that Naomi Price has a brilliant voice, which was also suitable to perform Adele’s songs.
After uttering sweet nothings about Parramatta and the Riverside Theatre, Naomi Price continued with a great deal of course language. This seemed unnatural and a bit forced. The audience came to have an enjoyable evening listening to the great songs written by Adele and learning about her life, but there were too many political points of view from the writers of the show to make the evening entirely seamless.
However, Naomi Price’s musical performance was superb and quite spectacular. There were showers of glitter during the final notes of ‘Skyfall’ and a shower of bubbles during ‘Daydreamer’. There was even a standing ovation towards the end of the show.
‘Rumour Has It’ is a show for everybody who doesn’t mind political jokes — and loves Adele’s music.
