Robin Hood and Bevvies at American Express Openair Cinema

The Plus Ones were invited to the VIP opening night of American Express Openair Cinemas in Pyrmont. We enjoyed Pimms cocktails as the sun set and the rain clouds swelled while Salt Meats Cheese provided food and Taren Egerton tried his hand at archery.

There’s something almost magical about openair cinemas. Openair cinemas are the perfect way to enjoy films with your mates or special friend (wink). And Sydney enjoys a plethora of openair cinema options. American Express have returned with their brand new Pyrmont location with food from Salts Meats Cheese and beverages from their beer partner, Urban Alley Brewery.

They’re also serving Giesen winePimms cocktails, Black Devil Cider, and soft drinks and popcorn. I also got a sneaky and delicious ice cream sandwich just as the film started which was a brilliant and unexpected treat.

In addition to the stunning waterfront location and delicious foods and beverages, American Express Openair Cinema also provides live music and DJ performances before the film begins. We were serenaded by a very talented guitarist before the heavens opened! You can even bring your doggo as the location is dog-friendly as well.

Unfortunately, we were not blessed with a dry evening and about an hour before the film began it started pouring rain. Credit to the organisers, a guy ran out with a box of ponchos for everyone and a poncho-less woman flipped over every single lounger while getting drenched herself.

Thankfully, it cleared up before the film started, bar a few bits of drizzle during the movie. It honestly felt like we were all at a music festival. Definitely made it a little more fun.

The film chosen for the launch night was Taren Egerton’s Robin Hood, I am not reviewing the film but it was a fun choice. Action, adventure, romance, and archery. What more could you want?

Their program features an array of films including critically acclaimed ‘A Star is Born’ and ‘First Man’, along with multiple showings of the fan favourite: Bohemian Rhapsody.

If you want to get into the Christmas spirit, they are also showing Love Actually and Elf  – although be quick as tickets are selling out fast!

American Express Card Members can enjoy a full VIP cinema experience by purchasing a ticket to the American Express Lounge. Card Members will enjoy their own bean bag, a cushion and complimentary blanket hire as well as some tasty treats.  American Express Card Members also enjoy 15% off selected tickets and access to the American Express Garden to enjoy sunset drinks.

There are a variety of seating options, we got a lounge seat, but attendees can hire a blanket or lounger as part of any ticket purchase, or bring their own if they prefer. Premium ticket holders to Prime Video Lounge include reserved seating on a comfy bean bag, service straight to you and a glass of wine.
