It’s no lie that Sydney is key to some of the best markets around but just like Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, most of us Sydneysiders only have 20 dollars in our pockets to spend, after of course we pay rent and buy our weekly avo on toast.
Here’s our top picks of the best markets to get your vintage wardrobe up to date whilst picking up hand-made accessories and some cool shoes to complete your look.
GLEBE MARKETS:
Glebe Public School, Glebe Point Rd | Every Saturday 10-4pm.
Glebe, oh Glebe. The inner west is sometimes the best. This groovy market has been a favourite of mine long before I can remember. It’s provided Sydney folk with countless vintage jackets, local artwork and amazing jewellery (both vintage and local artists). It’s also located perfectly on Glebe Point Rd providing amazing cafes and other cool stores like Sappho wine bar and bookstore if you’re looking to make a complete day of it. Just a word to the wise if you get here early – you might be lucky enough to score yourself a glitter playsuit. Yes dreams really do come true at Glebe Markets.
ROZELLE COLLECTORS MARKET:
663 Darling St, Sydney | Every Saturday & Sunday 9-3pm.
Rozelle markets are as true to a vintage flea market as you’ll find. Running every Saturday and Sunday it’s hipster flair will have you counting down the days to each weekend. Within every store is the opportunity to find an array of hidden collectables, books, jewellery, antiques, records and of course humble vintage clothing pieces.
BONDI MARKETS:
Bondi Beach Public School | Every Sunday 9-4pm.
If you needed another excuse to get yourself to Bondi for the weekend, apart from boozy rooftop ciders or coastal beach walks – here it is. The cooler winter days are the perfect reason to get yourself to Sydney’s most renown beach and not just for a breezy beach day. Filled with vintage stores that’ll make your heart, wallet and wardrobe sing it also has some local designers showcasing their market flair, which really is perfect if you’re looking for something away from the norm.
Paddington Markets
395 Oxford St, Paddington | Every Saturday from 10am.
Rain, hail or shine – the Paddington Markets some 250 + stalls will be sure to win you over with a vintage gemstone. Based on being a community market supporting local and emerging artists it definitely belongs in our top Sydney market picks. If you’re feeling like a little boutique shopping afterwards – Paddington is home to Sydney’s best design pop-ups and sample sales.
Kirribilli General Market
Burton St, Milsons Point | 4th Saturday of every month from 8:30am.
Kirribilli boasts Sydney with 3 different markets spread across different weekends throughout the month. In particular though, their general market, held on the 4th Saturday of every month is my favourite. It’s bric-a-brac, antique, vintage collectable streets will fill your bags with happiness and glee. You can also appreciate it’s stunning location, pretty much below the harbour bridge – so it’s the perfect weekend outing.
