The best events in Melbourne in February 2017

Summer is in full swing, which means more events than you can shake a stick at. It’s all happening this month, from sports to craft beer to a party where everyone wears red and eats red food. (Yes, that’s a thing.)

Read on for our pick of the best events in Melbourne in February!

NZ Craft Beer Symposium (1-6 February)

With Waitangi Day happening on 6th February, there’s no better way to commemorate our mates in the Land of the Long White Cloud. Visit Carwyn Cellars, The Catfish, Beer DeLuxe Federation Square and The Palace Hotel South Melbourne and try some Kiwi craft beer.

NAB AFL Women’s Competition (Fri. 3 February)

Great to see women finally getting into the AFL action! It’s the very first match they’ll play in their series, starring rivals Collingwood and Carlton. Did we mention it’s free?

Yak Ales Melbourne Barbecue Festival (4-5 February)

The carnivores amongst you will want to get stuck in to the annual Yak Ales Barbecue (or Barbeque, or BBQ) Festival. No matter how you spell it, it all means one thing: delicious meat in every incarnation overtakes the Flemington Racecourse.

Win a double pass!

BierYoga (Wed. 8 February)

Beer + Yoga. Yes, it’s a thing. And no, Melbourne hipsters didn’t invent it. It’s from Berlin (the ultimate hipster paradise). Don’t tell us that you don’t want to practice yoga whilst balancing a beer on your head. There are several more dates to choose from this month, so head along to the newest craze.

Inflatable Regatta (Sat. 11 February)

Hundreds of boats floating down the Yarra? Sign us up. We can’t think of many things better than meandering around the lazily-flowing river next to dozens upon dozens of boats. This sold out last year, so your best hope is entering our competition. Stat.

Plus win a double pass worth $110!

The Red Picnic (Sat. 11  February)

Red food. Red drinks. Red clothing. Yes, it’s all happening thanks to our friends at The Socialites. Envision a hundred or so folks dressed head-to-toe in red, dining on strawberries and caprese salad whilst imbibing cranberry-based drinks. RSVP to find out the secret location.

Festival of the Photocopier (Sun. 12 February)

A zine fair! Yes, zines are still around, and they have a dedicated festival at the Melbourne Town Hall thanks to The Sticky Institute, showcasing over 200 handmade tiny magazines. There’s also a launch party on Thurs. 9 Feb at The Tote to kick things off.

Twilight Beach Polo (Fri. 17 February)

We couldn’t be more excited about this if we tried. This is the first time that beach polo is held inside Melbourne. Watch the horses and riders in one of the most fun sports there is, all with St. Kilda Beach in the background. Make sure to dress up.

White Night Melbourne (Sat. 18 February)

February includes one of our favourite events of the year: White Night. Our top tips are to plan your route (but be flexible), don’t go with too many friends, and perhaps think about a disco nap so you can head out later in the evening and beat the crowds. No matter what, it’s worth it!

Maslenitsa Slavic Pancake Festival (Sat. 25 February)

Finishing off February, head to the Slavic Pancake Festival at the Royal Exhibition Centre in Carlton Gardens. There’s lots more on offer besides pancakes: singing and dancing performances, and a celebration of the myriad Slavic cultures of the world. A great day out.
