In burgers we eat: Three One 2 One launches new burgers and shakes menu

If you were to poll the average Melburnian on what culinary specimens resonate with this epicurean city, burgers would surely make the menu. Burger beasts Three One 2 One in Richmond have certified their position in the burger game by launching a new summer burger menu to satiate us food fanatics. Oh, and there are also freak shakes.

It’s no secret Melbourne’s burger game is strong. It’s a beefed-up niche market with enough permutations on the humble staple to cultivate burger snobbery. Eat enough burgers in Melbourne and you start treating them like commodity. Three One 2 One are heavy traders in the game.

I’ve known about them for a while now, but never had the chance to visit. Flicking through their Instagram account has often required tissues on hand to wipe the drool off my screen, so the chance to sample their latest summer menu was my ideal Thursday night out.

I love eyeing a food menu flush with burger options. Despite being a burger guy, I’m unusually indecisive when picking a new one to devour. I blame places like Three One 2 One for having such extensive menus. They boast eleven burgers to feed your inner burger demon. I love the mac-and-cheese burger combo, so I couldn’t resist the Kick Ass Mac ‘n’ Cheese. My +1 went for the fried chicken Los Pollos Hermanos.

But it’s not just burgers on the menu. Freak shakes (milkshakes that are freakishly big, for the uninitiated) came out in droves. The Coccobello (Nutella, strawberries, coconut ice cream, cookie ice cream, chocolate cake, and Melting Moments cookies) is angina-inducing indulgence. Stacks of biscuit and ice cream atop a milkshake alongside a burger stacked with patties e’ryday.

They also have a neat range of macro craft beer if stacked shakes are too overwhelming. But, next time I go, I’m attacking the Triplets: fried chicken, beef patty, pork patty, BLT, pickles, onion, jalapenos, bacon and onion jam, and Burgers of Melbourne (BOM) and 3121 sauce. Get in me.

Even if you’re a regular at Three One 2 One, you’re going to want to sample the impressive new burger and freak shake options. Perfect for that summer figure you’ve been chasing.

Ate: Mac and cheese beef burger with bacon and chilli cheese sauce fries.
Drank: Freak shakes and beer. Good mix.
