There’s something so decadent and special about high tea, which the organisers of The High Tea Party are fully aware of. They’re able to make each and every one of the attendees of their travelling events feel valued and entertained.
In conjunction with The Australian Women’s Weekly (a copy of which each attendee received), The High Tea Party travels throughout the country. From Melbourne to Adelaide, Perth to Canberra, the afternoon is open to all who want a luxurious touch in their weekend.
The Plus Ones’ Food & Drink Specialist, Orlaith, and I made our way to the Hilton on George Street. Passing stalls with everything from handbags to shoes, we were greeted with glasses of champagne and shown to our seats in the enormous ballroom.
Our Royal Albert teaware (plus a few extra gifts, including body scrub) were laid out in anticipation of the decadence to come. Soon, the efficient waitstaff poured our first of many, many cups of To A Tea teas.
The tiers of food arrived and we dug in: egg, chicken, and cucumber-and-brie sandwiches provided the savoury accompaniment to the sweets. Of course, you can’t have high tea without scones with jam and cream. There were also delectable coconut & milk chocolate tarts, raspberry and white chocolate in a shot glass, and (my favourite) pistachio sponge with cherry.
Attendees of The High Tea Party should expect to be entertained, not to have a quiet catchup and D&M with friends. This isn’t just about the food, it’s about the show. Throughout the hour-long sitting, we listened to speakers; watched videos; and were presented with not one, but two fashion shows.
The first showcased lingerie on models who were still enthusiastic at their fourth event of the day – kudos! The second featured non-models who got a chance to be styled to best flatter their figures. There were also raffles and giveaways galore.
Nothing felt rushed, but all too soon the event drew to a close. After one last lap around the vendors, we decided to finish off our afternoon with a drink at the 1890s Marble Bar in the basement of the Hilton.
The High Tea Party is a fun afternoon that’s perfectly suited for a catchup with your mum, grandmother, aunt, godmother, or stylish friend. I’ll see you there next year!
