How To Keep Yourself Happy

It is so important in life to be happy; not only is it good for us personally, including for our physical and mental health, but it’s good for those around us too. The more we can enjoy life, the better our relationships will be. With happiness comes more productivity, focus, and success as well. Therefore, it’s vital to discover ways to keep yourself happy as much of the time as possible. It’s not as hard as you might think; here are some ideas to get you started.

Look After Your Health

We all know that our health is the most important asset we have, and without it, our choices in life are limited, and we won’t feel as happy as we otherwise could. After all, how can you feel happy when you’re sick or in pain or physically limited in some way? So looking after your health has to be a priority if you want to keep yourself happy.

There are a number of ways you can do this. See your doctor on a regular basis, take up exercise, eat a healthy diet, and if you’re feeling unwell, get the problem dealt with sooner rather than later. Finally getting round to getting your dental implants Canberra or seeing someone for help with a pain you keep getting will certainly make you happy.

Exercise

We’ve already briefly mentioned how exercise is important, but do you know why it makes you happy? Firstly, you’ll get healthier, fitter, and lose weight, and for many, this will make them feel happy. However, there is more to exercise than that.

Exercise reduces your stress levels, which is sure to keep you happier. By exercising, you are lowering the amount of cortisol (the stress hormone) in your body and boosting the amount of serotonin and endorphins (the happy hormones). Just 10 minutes a day is enough to get you started, and this can be done by getting up 10 minutes earlier, taking a brisk walk in your lunch break, or exercising for 10 minutes before switching on the TV. It’s not a big change to make, but it could make a big difference.

Have Some Me Time

Don’t let the idea of ‘me time’ make you feel guilty. Everyone needs to get away and be by themselves every now and then – it’s a great way to unwind and de-stress. It doesn’t even need to be a long time, and you don’t need to leave the house or pack a bag to do it. Just 30 minutes soaking in the tub, listening to some music, or reading a book can be enough. Or join an exercise class or art class one evening a week where you can let your creativity flow. Choose something that works for you and let it be your thing that you can enjoy for yourself and no one else.

Write A Journal

Keeping a journal in which you write down your thoughts and feelings can keep you happy. If you are feeling negative, pouring out your worries into your journal will help get them off your mind. If you’re feeling positive, writing about why you’re happy and then re-reading it at a later date will boost your happiness in the future too.
