The Ternery Garden Bar: your new weekend destination in Darling Harbour

There’s nowhere better to be in Sydney this summer than a garden bar overlooking an amazing view. Enter The Ternary Garden Bar in Darling Harbour. Every weekend, you can visit for beats, views, and the drink of the year: Frosé.

Up a flight of stairs, The Ternary is a terrace bar situated between two hotels: Novotel Sydney on Darling Harbour and ibis Sydney Darling Harbour.

With copious amounts of seating, luscious greenery, and cute strings of lights, it feels like you’re in the backyard of a very sophisticated (and probably very rich) friend.

The night of the launch party at The Ternary, we were greeted by a photographer and immediately handed one of their signature cocktails: the Ternary Frosé, topped with an edible flower. What a way to have my very first Frosé!

Throughout the evening, my plus one and I also imbibed their Cascade Ginger Beer with Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum, mint, and lime. Along with The Garden Spritz and White Wine Sangria, it’s available on tap or — my pick — by the jug for sharing with friends.

And that’s what The Ternary is all about: having a great time with your pals. With little tables, tons of cushions, and a to-die-for-view, it’s the perfect place to bring your friends.

My plus one, visiting Melbourne, was blown away by the panoramic views of Darling Harbour in twilight. Sure, you might have more ‘culture’ or something, Melbourne — but you ain’t got the views.

My friend was also gobsmacked by being in the presence of her favourite star from The Bachelor, Noni Janur. Noni was a delight to talk to. We got all kinds of inside goss on what it’s like to be part of the behemoth that is The Bachelor. (Surprise: they’re all friends!)

We rehashed our favourite reality tv shows (I’m a stalwart fan of The Farmer Wants a Wife) over delicious food prepared by The Ternary’s chefs. It’s not your standard fare: there’s crab on betel leaves; dim sims, but with a topping of siracha. Stuffed zucchini is filled with labneh, not the usual feta. My favourite — cheese soufflé tart — is made with Gruyère. Talk about moreish!

The Ternary has plans to feed the masses: Fridays will see a lamb or pig spit-roasted, while Sundays revolved around an old-fashioned Aussie barbeque.

Did I mention the opening hours? The Ternary is open solely on weekends, from Thursday night to Sunday eve. All the more reason to head over for a party while you can. You have to know when to go.
