Central Park Film Festival

With daylight savings bringing longer evenings, we encounter some of the year’s best events. My favourite of these is the outdoor cinema and Central Park is the latest venue to jump on this popular bandwagon. Following from the urban destinations involvement in Vivid and opening of Ambush Gallery, the venue is working hard to situate itself as a cool local space. Central Park Film Festival ran from the 22nd to the 25th of October, featuring two popular cult classics a night. While the venue was intimate, the crowd was buzzing. I found myself at the closing evening watching 10 things I hate about you and sharing the romantic ambiance with my plus one.

Situated in Chippendale Green, the outdoor Cinema Experience was made that much more enjoyable by the execution. The visuals were great and the foot traffic drowned out by silent disco style headgear. Not only could you see the film in clarity – but you could actually hear it well too! While outdoor cinema had me fuelled with anxiety that the floating blow up screen would launch over and consume me, this event was different and I liked it. Movie tickets included a $10 voucher to grab pre-screening dinner from one of many outlets at the food court. Whilst the space has an upmarket urban vibe, this certainly wasn’t an event to break the bank.
