Redline Productions presents the play A View from the Bridge at the charming Old Fitz Theatre. The play is set in the 1950s and follows the story of the main character, Eddie Carbone.
Upon entering the theater, it was noticeable that the stage setup was different. Normally, the audience sits on one side, in front of the stage, to watch a story unfold. But in this case, the audience sits down on both sides, with a thin long stage in the middle. This setup could represent the title and make the stage look like a bridge. Apart from the setup, the only prop used during the play is a single wooden chair.
With this minimalistic decoration, the audience focuses on the unfolding story only. Eddie seems to be a well-adjusted character at first, but when two of his wife’s cousins enter the U.S. illegally and start living with them, it becomes more complicated. A love story develops between Eddie’s beloved niece and one of the cousins and Eddie breaks down emotionally.
It is a story of love, betrayal, and passion. The play also sheds a light on the hopes and dreams of some illegal immigrants and the fear of discovery. This play is for everybody who like the drama genre.
