Matador returns to Melbourne

man dressed as a bull standing next to a ladyHow great is it to have live theatre back in Melbourne! Inspired by hot Spanish nights, ‘Matador‘ is a fiery fusion of burlesque, dance and jaw-dropping circus acts. A fiery Spanish backdrop sets up this tale of forbidden love, desires, passion and pain: a tale of a love torn bull and the seductive Matador.

Playing at the stunning Her Majesty’s Theatre, this show is full of very sexy people. The tightly choreographed dances and sexually charged circus acts were a delight to watch, and each performer really brought their all. It’s a show you should take a date on (or really good friends) but leave the kids at home. Christopher Poliitis as the bull was a standout along with some amazing aerial acts. We particularly liked how the show went against expectations and had some very queer love scenes.

Returning to Melbourne, this season features a new cast, costumes, a beautiful set and non-stop high energy commercial dance pieces. It was great hearing some well known songs in Spanish (we’ll be looking up these versions to play at home). If you love a variety show full of contemporary dance, ballet as well as steamy Latin numbers intertwine with burlesque acts, hair raising aerial and circus then make it your mission to see Matador before it sells out.
