Techno Bingo at Melbourne Music Week

The Huxleys wearing shiny outfitsBangers and bingo – what more could we wish for? One of our favourite events of the year Melbourne Music Week was thankfully extended this season and we couldn’t be happier. Our highlight of the season is a special event called Techno Bingo held at Colour which is about to make your Thursday evenings a whole lot hotter.

Katie Pearson at Melbourne Music Week Combining two of life’s most entertaining yet previously unrelated events – techno & bingo – MMW’s Techno Bingo clashes them together for the first time into one hugely uplifting show. Music is delivered by Australia’s queer dance scene’s worst kept secret, Katie Pearson and self-confessed connoisseur of the ‘deep-fried disco’ genre DJ Tanzer across the four-night program from December to January. My plus one and I were fortunate enough to see the third show in the series featuring our favourite Melbourne performance-art duos The Huxleys who kept us entertained between rounds.

Gabriella Bartonova at Melbourne Music WeekJoining Katie Pearson on other nights were Gabriella Bartonova and drag queen Jandruze to help call ‘five alive!’ and ‘legs eleven!’ (and many more things that I don’t want to put to print). On the night you will play a few rounds of bingo (with as many card as you feel like you can handle – we tried doing 5 at a time!), and there are some interesting novelty prizes to win. It’s really when the bingo ends that things start to heat up with the dance floor opening for a little (socially distanced) boogie to some brilliant 80’s tunes. We’re so happy to have events like this back in Melbourne and a chance to support some truly excellent home-grown talent. If Techno Bingo was to become a regular event at Colour Club we’d be all for it.

Tasty pizzas and a full bar is available to purchase on the night, including plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. For an event you won’t want to forget, make sure you snap up a ticket to Techno Bingo for some wholesome bingo fun and slightly less wholesome (but just as fun) beats.
