Opening just in time for warm summer nights, and lazy summer days, Bourke Street Green is an open-air oasis in the heart of Melbourne’s concrete jungle. My plus one and I were lucky enough to check it out for an evening of cocktails, food and good company.
Bourke Street Green is all about fresh vibes and fresh air. That’s right. It’s not just the doors that open, but also their roof. The thoughtfully designed space is full of natural timber, overhanging plants and a useful retractable roof. You’ll be sure that every day can be enjoyed, no matter what Melbourne’s weather decides to throw at you.
With a strong focus on local producers, the menu is full of interesting (and most importantly tasty) aperitivo-style bites. Try the Rome-inspired pizza pockets (trapizzino) stuffed with eggplant, gruyère and carrot pesto, which are a decent in-between meals snack. Mini burgers, arancini and antipasto share plates are all built to share with friends too. For dessert, do not miss out on their lamington ice-cream sandwiches.
On the night, we sampled cocktails that incorporated Melbourne’s own Marionette liqueurs and Tiny Bear Gin which are both available behind the well-stocked bar. Tiny Bear is known for making their gin from kale, while Marionette is owned by veteran Melbourne bartenders who work with farmers from across Australia to balance the perfect liqueurs for a well-deserved cocktail.
Bourke Street Green is a welcome escape from the frantic pace of Melbourne’s CBD. We’re looking forward to many more summer nights here.
