I live with two vegan chefs and know just how delicious vegan food is. While Melbourne is a hotbed of delicious vegetarian goodness, vegan restaurants can be much harder to find. As such, I gladly accepted The Plus Ones’ invite for a media dinner at The Alley, Melbourne’s new vegan eatery.
The team at The Alley has designed their restaurant with a flavour packed menu that re-defines the plant eating experience. Their ethos is to re-create comfort food and ensure flavour is not forsaken in the pursuit of plant-ly delights.
Designed for inner-city workers who need to grab a ten minute bite, as well as those that indulge in a long lunch or two, the inner-city eatery is set to open several franchises across Melbourne.
On the night we, were lucky to experience several scrumptious dishes that the team has cooked up from their extensive menu. A mac n cheese to start with. Yes please! This macaroni and sweet corn dish is draped in creamy white bean sauce and topped with coconut bacon. Coconut bacon — why is this the first time I’m hearing about you?
Next up were the The Alley’s signature burgers: Beet Steak, Maple Bacon, Mi_So Hungry and Hawaiian. All were on point and need to be tried at least once. Better yet, we were able to wash these down with Pirate Life craft beer. Any place that has this on hand almost automatically receives a tick of approval?
The Alley absolutely hits their objective on the head. Flavour packed comfort food through and through. I hope the team has a successful launch and is able to realise their expansion dreams.
