I’m not sure this festival could be more perfect – some suspicious person has gone into my playlists and plucked out every Australian act I’ve been listening to and put them on a poster in front of me. Here are my top picks for the fantastic The Lost Lands festival coming up at the end of October.
Alex Lahey
Alex Lahey’s taken the world by storm. Her music is raw and her lyrics are way too damned relatable for a twenty-something living in Melbourne, whether it’s about relationships or the fact that our very expensive educations don’t actually make us any more damned employable. All this heavy material while simultaneously making some magical music.
Architecture in Helsinki
These kids are some of Australia’s greatest happy music makers. I have spent countless hours bopping around to them, and they were one of my first ever live gigs – now I get to relive that ALL OVER AGAIN except I get to drink wine at the same time! They play around with sounds, timing and of course bright brilliant colours. This is bound to be one of the most fun acts of the festival.
Missy Higgins
Missy Higgins is plainly just Aus music royalty. Her lyrics have been flawlessly making people have feelings since The Sound Of White came out 13 years ago. She’s grown into a seasoned professional who seems to pour all of herself into her music, which is at times unashamedly political. This is a performance I have been waiting half my life for.
Olympia
Olympia’s only recently appeared on my radar but she’s done a takeover of sorts. Gentle vocals with great pop hooks, and a glorious song called Blue Light Disco which makes me very nostalgic. I’ll be very interested to see what she comes out with in a live performance!
Tash Sultana
Tash Sultana is a total darling of the music world – as I have previously attested to. Jetstar recently lost their luggage and felt the wrath of the many many humans who were emotionally invested in the success of Sultana’s tour. Their music is a myriad of loops and vocals, sewn together effortlessly for a wonderful live show.
The Waifs
THE WAIFS GUYS! I love the Waifs, I’ve been in love with them for a very long time. I’m not even gonna write about them, just listen to them play.
