Moulin Beige cabaret spectacular

Add some variety to your Tuesday night. The Moulin Beige is a cabaret variety show that runs the first Tuesday of every month. This month, my plus one and I had the privilege to attend Le Grand Moulin Beige – held in the beautiful Melba Spiegeltent. For one night only clowns, songstresses, and circus performers took over the mirrored tent.

The Amazing Hazel was one of the highlights. Her foot juggling featured ‘feets’ of strength and agility. (See what I just did there?) I was also delighted to see Simon Wright on the list of performers. His act for the night was one of my favourite stripteases I’ve ever seen – featuring a unicycle and some serious skill.

Usually home to Circus Oz, the Melba Spiegeltent was like another character in the cast. It was built over 100 years ago and evoked the glamour and charm of vaudeville days of yore. Mirrors lined the wooden posts and groups made themselves comfortable in the back booths with glasses of wine. While the booths are cosy, there wasn’t an abundance of canoodling in the corners. Adult children could comfortably take their mums to Moulin Beige for a night out.

The show normally performs at the Wesley Anne in Northcote and it carried a community vibe. Our jovial hostess, Liz Skitch, quickly identified regulars in the audience – including a strapping young lad… and his mum. It was just in time for Mother’s Day. But you don’t have to wait for a special day — take yoru mum (or other friends) to their next monthly show. Book quickly before it sells out.
