The Barbershop: A 1920s Speakeasy

If you’re like me, and you have dreams of living in the past, but conveniently forget about how disgusting and unhygienic the past was, then you too love going to themed events and wishing it was real. For me, The Barbershop at 24 Moons Bar was a great escape from the boring realties of the 21st Century.

My plus one and I sipped on espresso martinis (a mild concession to the modern world) while watching aerial artists twist on acrobatic silks and hoops. We played roulette and black jack, betting big with our $100 notes and bought ‘cigarettes’ (Fads) from girls with boxes around their necks.

The best part of the night though was swing-dancing the night away (I admit, the heels came off for this bit) and sipping champagne with all the dapper dressed gentlemen in their fedoras, bracers and bowties. My plus one disappeared for a good half an hour, to be discovered cloistered behind a curtain with some tarot cards and a fortune teller.

I woke up with a killer hangover, sore dancing feet and a deeper nostalgia for a time long-gone. Yes, there’s nothing like reliving another era with the added bonus of working plumbing and lower rates of cholera.
