The Rocky Horror Show: the musical

My plus one and I were excited to pull on our fishnets and head out for an evening of sexy entertainment at The Rocky Horror Show. The fun, high energy production at the Comedy Theatre delivered the goods on opening night.

The Rocky Horror musical and the movie it inspired enjoy a cult following worldwide. The story follows naïve young couple, Brad and Janet, on their trip to meet their former science tutor. Finding themselves caught in a rainstorm with a flat tire, the couple seek refuge in a mysterious castle nearby. When Brad and Janet meet the master of the house their ordinary night out quickly turns into “a night they were going to remember… for a very long time.”

Craig McLachlan stole the show, in the best way possible, as Frank N Furter. His sassy asides and impromptu innuendos had me giggling for more. It’s no surprise that he won the Helpmann Award for Best Actor in a Musical for this role. Jayde Westaby made the most of her role as Magenta, and Amy Lehpamer showed off her musical theatre pipes as Janet. The lighting design was phenomenal and the costumes stayed close to the original stylings of the film.

Lace up a corset, grab a date, and head to the Comedy Theatre for a night of absolute pleasure.
