Live Comedy with a Sprinkling of Live Music – Rock’n’Lols

Rock’n’Lols

The lure of an event containing two of my favourite things at an unconventional venue was enough to draw me away from my usual Wednesday night comedy show, and I’m glad I went along. Rock ‘n’ Lols is organized by Alexander Sparrow and this month consisted of 3 comics and 2 bands – all well chosen to complement each other.  The MC Enigma (alter ego of Alexander Sparrow and pick-up artiste extraordinaire)  did a fantastic job warming up a non-conventional comedy crowd.  He was followed by Shawn Holt and Patch Lambert – both of whom were well received by the small but slightly bogan audience.  Following this Sand Band performed a set, they are a young local band with a unique, rocky, sound.

After a short break we got straight back into it with Ants Heath who kept the bogan jokes rolling and then the night ended with the Uncools and their punky vibe.

Overall it was a great way to spend hump-day – a few laughs and a couple of bands, all wrapped up at a reasonable time for a work night.  Perhaps the best thing about the evening is that you will discover something new – I encountered two bands I hadn’t seen before and the people that were there for the music discovered a couple of local comics.  Either way it’s a great experience.
