SAFIA have always dreamed big. Since they formed in Canberra 2012 and broke out a year later with the hugely successful ‘Listen To Soul, Listen To Blues’, the trio of Ben Woolner (vocals/keys), Michael Bell (drums), and Harry Sayers (guitars/keys) have crafted music that perfectly encapsulates the name of their latest tour: Lucid Dream.
My plus one and I joined thousands of other fans on a Friday night to experience their unique sound for ourselves at one of Melbourne’s most famous venues, the stunning Forum Theatre. Supporting the trio were relative newcomers Gold Fang and BIRDEE.
From the very first pulsating beat as their kaleidoscopic lights lit up the venue, we knew we were in for a good show.
Ben Woolner’s soft vocals soared through the venue, hitting every emotional note with precision, while Michael Bell’s drumming adds a heartbeat that resonates through the crowd and had everyone dancing along. Harry Sayers’ guitars and keys? They’re the magic wands weaving the sonic tapestry that’ll have you dancing, swaying, and surrendering to the rhythm.
Whether you’re a longtime fan or a newcomer, SAFIA’s live show is a communal celebration. Playing a wide selection of both old and new material, and a very special cover song, we’d be surprised if they don’t try and find a larger venue for their next tour (as much as we love The Forum).
So, if you’ve snagged a ticket to their national tour, consider yourself in for a treat. Get ready to lose yourself in the music, surrender to the beats, and let SAFIA transport you to a world where every note is a revelation.
Your ears will thank you, and your soul will be left craving more.
