The Beer and Burger Bar – because no good party ever started with a salad

Holiday hangover? The newly refurbished Beer and Burger Bar has the cure. We personally put this theory to the test at BBB’s relaunch party. The venue’s two best features are obvious, with bangin burgers and a good selection of local craft beers — perfect for a hair of the dog, or two. Coopers is the most ‘stock standard’ beer you’ll find on tap, while the other offerings rotate every few months. You’ll also find an exclusive collaboration beer the team made with Burnley Brewing, located just a stone’s throw away from The Beer and Burger Bar.

But don’t let the name fool you. There are also fun cocktails (think fairy floss spritz, fruit tingles, lageritas, and espresso martinis) and MULTIPLE vegetarian/vegan options on the menu. The Dirty Vegan Burger won me over with the crumbed eggplant, cheese and mayo. The vegan chips with cheese and gravy were also a salty, satisfying treat. I salute BBB for giving those of us who eat veggie food the option of enjoying our vegetables straight from the fryer. Meat eaters are spoilt for choice too – we counted a total of 13 beefy (and lamb-y and fried chicken-y) burgers on the menu.

Owner Ryan Kurban is a third generation hospitality pro; he birthed his Beer and Burger baby seven years ago from a building that lacked even plumbing and electricity. The new refurbishment has taken the classic combo of burgers and beer and bumped things up a notch for a Melbourne audience with Instagram-able shakes and vegan junk food served over a sleek metal countertop. It’s well placed in the Richmond neighbourhood; the staff can churn out an impressive number of burgers on game days and it’s ideal for pre-partying any time of the year.
