It’s that time of the year, where Melbourne showcases what we’re extraordinary for… farshen, dahlings! Running from 1–18 March 2018, Virgin Australia Melbourne Festival (VAMFF) will be the style-light of the city with centrepiece runways and popup events held at the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton.
Runways, parties, and with idea seminars mixed with the fashion arts — VAMFF is one of our favourite fashion fortnights of the year, to be creatively inspired and all the good feels.
Here are The Plus Ones’ top five picks of events at VAMFF 2018.
1) Gala Runway (Monday 5 March 7.30pm & 9pm | $59)
A runway is certainly on the cards on the must-do list for any fashion festival. The 2018 Gala Runway is presented by David Jones and supported by Vogue Australia. Showcasing the largest designer lineup of the festival, this one’s our top of the list in March.
2) Australian Fashion Connect (Sunday 11 March 1pm & 4pm | TBC)
High Tea mixed with a runway show of Australia’s upcoming designers. Yes please! Held at the beautiful setting of the Hotel Windsor, Australian Fashion Connect gives the attendees the opportunity to connect directly with the designers with ready-to-purchase garments from the runway. Most importantly, proceeds of the event will be donated to United Nations Women Australia promoting women’s empowerment and equality.
3) Hybrid Entities: Wearable Art Forms (Wednesday 14 March 7pm | Free)
A fusion of imagination, creativity and everything ground breaking. Hybrid Entities: Wearable Art Forms held at the heritage building LCI Melbourne, certainly got our attention as it’s talked to be ‘larger-than-life reality’. A fashion art event that will keep you on your toes!
4) Equinox V | Venus (Sunday 18 March 6pm | TBC)
Who wouldn’t want to experience a runway show to transform us into different artistic worlds? This independent diamond runway uses ethical fashion as well the collaboration of visual, light and sound artists to keep us inspired.
5) Nocturnal (Friday 2 March 6pm | $25)
Hosted at the Melbourne Museum, Nocturnal gives us live music with a special guest performance from Jordie Lane. A glass of sparkling and some lovely tunes will top the night off as attendees also gain access into You Can’t Do That and Birrarung Fashion Exhibitions.
