NineteenForty launch at The Rivoli

The Rivoli Cinema on Camberwell Road is already known as an Art Deco gem. It couldn’t get any better, am I right? Well, with the addition of NineteenForty rooftop bar they have definitely taken things to another level (pardon the pun). I was invited to the VIP opening along with my plus one for a very special after work drinks!

It was actually my plus one’s first time inside the Rivoli and she was so struck by the kitschy interior that she just had to Instagram every feature of the building. I was exhausted from work and dying for a glass of anything alcoholic so I begged her to hurry up. We were then greeted by some fabulous staff who guided us up to the rooftop space and we were signed into the event. Upon arrival we were handed a vodka and brandy-based punch that slipped down so easy we were taking them like shots. After downing a few cocktails, we headed to the bar for some sparkling to cleanse the sweetness for some of the delicious canapés that were about to come our way.

We were spoilt with everything from pumpkin pies to duck spring rolls, but our favourite was the prawn twisters which we hoarded when ever they passed us. Accompanying the wide selection of food and Chandon sparkling, was a 40’s swing band that set the mood for the evening. As the booze kicked in we started socialising and met some new friends and shared stories while looking out across the bustling street below.  It was a great night all round with NineteenForty being the perfect place for after work drinks on a warm spring evening.

The thing that topped off the night for me was the staff, each of them made us feel so welcome while looking the part with their hair styled especially for the event.

NineteenForty is open now to the public, check it out for a post work tipple!
