Winter menu launch at Street Talk Espresso

One of the best parts about the seasons changing is when restaurants and cafes update their menus. I was invited to a little preview of Street Talk Espresso‘s new winter menu. Let me say right now: this is worth a trip to Armadale. Yes, even if you live north of the river.

I’ll admit that I don’t often make the trek down to the ‘dale. (I live off the 86 tram, okay? It’s hard to leave.) But a perk of running The Plus Ones is exploring Melbourne’s neighbourhoods. Located on High Street in Armadale, Street Talk has been around since 2009. It proves an enduringly popular spot for locals.

I was seated next to friendly foodies Melbourne Food Finds and Two Food Friends. We dove our way into the menu as the photographer snapped away. The ‘OG Acai Bowl’ was a favourite amongst the Instagrammers, with its beautiful colours (and equally beautiful flavours). I munched away on the ‘Breakfast Bruschetta’. With the expected tomato/basil combo, it also featured goats cheese chevre alongside bacon — topped with a poached egg and pepitas. This ain’t your normal bruschetta.

The new winter menu is chock-a-block with this sort of food: your classic brunch items, but with unexpected twists. Take the French toast. Instead of the usual bread, it’s made with Challah (which owner/manager Dean Fouritz picks up daily from a local Jewish bakery). Topped with marscapone and fruit, it’s then layered with Tim Tam ‘sand’ + espresso caviar. Whaaat.

As we snapped photos for our Instagram accounts (follow @theplusonesglobal!), Dean and his chef periodically came out to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. With such a dedicated and nice team, no wonder Street Talk Espresso is so beloved by Armadale residents.

If there’s one dish you simply must have when you visit, though, it’s the ‘Peter Peter Pumkin Eater Bruschetta’. The perfect autumnal brunch dish, it perfectly pairs pumpkin (ha) with halloumi and wild mushrooms. The textures and flavours are divine. I know cafe-goers will be sad when spring comes around and it’s taken off the menu. But before that happens, you can try it for yourself.
