The global design firm, Unispace, sure knows how to throw one heck of an office party! Known for their innovative and human-centered approach to business interior design, Unispace made a grand entrance to Melbourne this week with its launch party. My plus ones and I were treated to fabulous evening of live music, hors d’oeuvres, and adult beverages. We rubbed elbows with industry members, Unispace employees, and start-up experts. Many of who helped to create the very office that we were all standing in.
Upon arrival we were greeted warmly and offered nametags and a drink. Large trays of nibbles floated around the room carried by friendly catering staff. Guests feasted on roast beasts, grilled asparagus, and small mountains of cheese.
When I was first pitched this event and heard that it was an office party, I envisioned the generic office landscape filled with mind-numbing fluorescent lights, particleboard desks, and fichus trees. As if he could read my mind, Unispace Senior Site Manager, Michele Ciavarella, offered to take us on a tour. I have never been happier to be proven wrong. The tour was impressive. We got to admire examples of the custom designed workplaces that Unispace creates for others.
There were no assigned desks. No labyrinth of cubicles stuffed with personal tchotchkes. Instead the office was modern and highly functional. Each office fixture had a distinct creative twist to it. For example, the lights in the main room resembled a cross between Tron-like tree roots and lightning. My favorite part of the tour was the Buzz Lightyear room. My Gen Y heart swooned when I saw the ceiling and the mini plastic action figure of Buzz resting in the cozy and soundproof telephone room.
Overall the event was a hit. Cocoa Noire gave a great musical performance. The adult libations flowed and the catering was on point. My favorite canapé was the mini Yorkshire puddings.
Holding true to their motto, ‘think, make, and create’, Unispace delivered a fun and memorable party experience for their guests. Hands down, Unispace is the coolest design firm in the CBD.
