Comedy Festival: Chimp Cop Nights

Following up on the super successful ‘Chimp Cop’, the Melbourne-based comedy team Adam Knox, Ben Vernel, Rosie Vernel, and Timothy Clark are back on the beat and back on the stage with the wonderfully crazy ‘Chimp Cop Nights’.

‘Chimp Cop Nights’ played to a packed house and as soon as the lights went down the laughter started up. The show takes its audience on an action-packed ride through the world of law enforcement, covering a year’s work in just 50 minutes. It follows the legendary Chimp Cop (yes he actually is a chimp who is a cop!) and his rookie partner, Rachel.

For Rachel, it’s a dream come true to transfer to the big city and be partnered with her idol, Chimp Cop himself. But her world quickly gets shaken up and she gets thrown in at the deep end when the partners arrive at a rooftop hostage situation. From there, their detective skills, disguises and technology are put to the test as the pair get drawn into a web of lies and uncertainty. They will experience love and loss, but do they have the skills they need to stay alive and expose the underworld kingpin?

The act combines slap stick humour and one-liners that will appeal to any fan of The Naked Gun and the slightly slap dash and fast-paced nature will drag along the rest. The clever use of video fills in the backstory and provides transitions between scenes that keep the comedy rolling, whilst some truly stunning ‘special’ effects are the icing on the cake.

‘Chimp Cop Nights’ is a gritty and silly mash-up police comedy. It will have you second-guessing what you’re seeing and laughing out loud, sometimes along with the performers as they smash the fourth wall to pieces.
