If you’re ready for a night of hilariously risqué “Ass-ventures” with your favourite superheroes, look no further than MARVELOUS, now playing at St Kilda’s National Theatre. This parody circus-cabaret show grabs the Marvel universe by the cape and flips it inside out, delivering a whirlwind of satire, sass, and skin that had the audience cheering and blushing all night.
From a hunky Captain America and sultry Black Widow to a hilarious Fat Thor and a sexy Iron Woman, MARVELOUS features a cast of 12 talented performers who put a wild twist on iconic Marvel characters. Spiderman played the narrator guiding us through each act with cheeky commentary and off handed jokes that landed every time. His unfiltered banter had the audience laughing throughout whilst adding an additional level of playfulness to the show.
The real standout of the night? Iron Woman. Commanding the stage with a sultry dance routine to Ginuwine’s Pony, whilst assembling her iron suit and stripping down to her skimpies. She later returned with the other female cast members as backup, in a dance number that was equally sexy and electrifying. And then there was Captain America—his full-on nude act, using only his shield to cover himself while flipping and dancing across the stage, left the audience in stitches (and maybe even a little sweaty).
The choreography highlighted the cast’s impressive blend of dance, circus arts, and musical theatre backgrounds, adding a thrilling edge to each performance. From jaw-dropping acrobatic flips to aerial pole and strap routines, and some standout vocals from the female cast members, the talent on display was as diverse as it was impressive.
Running through November 10 at The National Theatre, MARVELOUS is a must-see for anyone who loves their superheroes with a side of sass. Tickets start from $79 – get yours here. This show is 18+.
