Have you ever heard of a cereal milk inspired cocktail, or a black daiquiri? Yep, they’re a thing and you can get them at Waterslide Bar.
You may have heard of them from the infamous Tinder Date cocktail, alongside other colourfully named drinks such as The Pick Up Artist and the Brunswick Hippy. They’re known for their unique, experimental cocktails with a cocktail menu that is equally fun to read as it is to drink.
Waterslide Bar recently launched their new cocktail menu and invited us in to test it out.
The new menu takes a more sophisticated approach with a combination of Waterslide’s twist on classic cocktails, along with some completely new concoctions.
Amusingly named Explorations of a Drunkard, you’ll find favourites like the Confresi Negroni – a pina colada cross negroni, the Nitro Muddled Mint Julep – a classic with a liquid nitrogen infusion, and the Martinez – the father of the Martini. On the wilder side, you’ll find The Melburnian – a chai tea cocktail with Starward Whiskey, served in a coffee mug, or my personal favourite Auntie Faye’s Cure No. 23 – a molten cup of apple rhubarb, cinnamon, and bourbon topped with custard foam.
Then there are the completely crazy one of a kind creations which deserve prime real estate on your Instagram page; the Cereal Milk and The Blaquiri. Cereal Milk is, well, you guessed it – cereal milk, Infused with rum and served in a vintage cereal milk jar. It tastes unmistakably like childhood memories, just the grown up alcoholic version.
The Blaquiri is a mind-blowing piece of work. A completely black cocktail comprised of Bacardi, lime, and stout reduction. It’s crisp, full-bodied, and sour.
When tasked with the challenge of testing out a new cocktail menu, it’s equally important to remain well-fed. Waterslide’s tapas style sharing menu is the perfect accompaniment of a few afterwork drinks. We tried the red miso & beer marinated lamb ribs and buffalo chicken ribs – both generous serves of savoury goodness. They’ve also got a range of pizzas, cheeses, and charcuterie.
Waterslide Bar is a definite must-see pit stop on your Melbourne bar bucket list. It’s located in Southgate Shopping Centre along the Yarra River with stunning river and city views.
