Summer is here and we don’t know of a better way to beat the heat, than by sipping a frozen gin & tonic from Ms Elwood. Yes, it’s a real thing, and yes you can relive your 7/11 kiddie Slurpee dreams…adult beverage style.
If you haven’t met the saucy mistress, Ms Elwood is Elwood’s resident Asian fusion restaurant. The name is a playful spin on the fact that Elwood has the highest number of single females of any Melbourne suburb, and Ms El definitely plays up to her reputation; sophisticated, spunky, and sassy. She invited us out for a VIP night of festivities to taste her new summer menu and cocktails.
We were greeted by a neon pink “stay saucy” sign, a lychee martini, and make your own poke bowl station. I knew we were destine to be good friends.
I created a heaping poke bowl with fresh salmon, edamame, seaweed salad, and avocado, and Ms El walked me through her new summer drinks menu. The Japanese Slipper – melon midori, zesty lemon, and Cointreau; Madame Lychee – lychee Liqueur, ginger, vodka, shaken up tangy martini style; frose (my good old summer faithful); and of course the frozen Gin & Tonic – a tangy icy blend of one of my favourite cocktails, a fresh new spin on the drink.
Prawn gyoza, black sesame crust Japanese pizza, fried chicken, and some of Ms El’s very own buns were on the tasting menu for the night.
Leaving fully content (and with a bit of a food baby), I gave Ms El’s new summer menu a big tick of approval!
On weeknights you can find the tasty temptress serving up dishes from the new summer menu along with Asian inspired dishes including sashimi, dumplings, healthy poke bowls and bao buns. Ms El also runs happy hours throughout the week including Dumpling Monday and Wednesday ($1 dumplings – oh yeah!), Bao Thursday, Sushi Sundays, and Saucy Hour ($12 cocktails from 5:30-7:00 PM). Visit her website for more information.
