The excellent Zoo Twilights is back this summer at Melbourne Zoo. In the fight against wildlife extinction, our world-class home to some pretty special animals has invited great local and international musicians to play live, under the stars and in a setting unlike any other.
If you are clever and arrive at dusk you will have time to explore the Zoo and meet some of the animals before settling up a picnic the lawns for the show. My plus one and I arrived fashionably late, but still managed to see some happy giraffe munching on their dinner before getting a nice icy-cold drink and settling in to see the bands.
Kicking off the series of shows was one of our favorite bands, Cut Copy with support from the excellent Electric Fields and DJ Andee Frost. It goes without saying that the audience loved every minute of it. Cut Copy is currently touring their 5th studio album, so we were some of the first audiences to hear the songs live.
There are so many great things we love about Zoo Twilights. The family friendly picnics, the welcoming all-ages audience, places to sit and relax or to dance the night away, great food trucks and locally produced drinks. Having all of this in one stunning venue on a clear summers night is perfection.
All proceeds go towards helping save our furry little friends, the Eastern Barred Bandicoot from extinction. C’mon, do you really want this adorable little guy to disappear forever!? Head on over to the Zoo Twilights website to see what other excellent bands are playing soon. We guarantee it’s a great experience and for a very worthy cause.
