Billy’s Central Café Launch at Melbourne Central

Christmas is just around the corner which means countless hours at Melbourne Central, and if you’re like me, Christmas shopping stress induced hangry episodes. Lucky for us, hanger no longer has to be a problem, with the launch of Billy’s Central – Melbourne Central’s newest brunch spot. The timing couldn’t be more perfect for the beginning of the holiday rush.

Located in prime position next to the busy footbridge that connects Melbourne Central to Emporium, Billy’s Central is the perfect retreat to escape shopping madness and refuel with some mouth-watering home style dishes.

We were invited by Billy’s Central to check out the menu. My secret to a successful day of holiday shopping? Getting the day started off right with a big breakfast to fuel my shopping endeavours. I decided to put Billy’s Central to the test starting off with a big breakfast before I braved the busy rush of Melbourne Central.

Shopping centres overwhelm me. I will be the first to admit it. Luckily, Billy’s Central was a great brunch oasis. There’s a coffee kiosk and several tables in the middle of the shopping centre walkway, with a full service café attached. The interior is full of modern décor surrounded with draping green plants – the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of the holidays.

The menu is packed full of all your breakfast and lunch favourites; bircher museli, big brekky, fresh salads, pumpkin spinach risotto, salmon cakes, and sliders! I had my all-time brekky favourite – smashed avo on toast, with a side of crispy eggplant chips and hommus dip.

The presentation of the dishes was certainly Instagram worthy, with no attention to detail overlooked. The food followed suit; perfectly poached eggs atop a heaping mountain of avocado and feta. The eggplant chips came out piping hot with crispy edges and a molten soft eggplant centre.

My eyes and belly were happy as I rolled out of the café onwards to my Christmas shopping extravaganza. I must admit, I was quite full, so the only change I would recommend to Billy’s Central is offering sleeping pods for customers to sleep off the food coma and rejuvenate for more shopping!
