Client Liaison: A Foreign Affair

My first experience of the phenomenon that is Client Liaison occurred at Melbourne’s St Kilda Festival Sunday in 2016. I had never heard of them and was a little disappointed that a ‘no-name’ band was headlining. Bouncing onto stage in their 80s garb my mood softened. From the very first note, I was hooked. As we soaked up beat after beat I vaguely recall broadcasting my love for my new favourite band when an old dude turned around and said ‘you like em ey?’. ‘They’re awesome’, I replied. ‘Good to know, he’s (Monte Morgan) my son!’ Monte’s dad proudly described how the band battled through the early days and brought their gloriously cheeky indie pop tones to audiences across Australia.

How times have come since those early days. The band’s newly announced tour A Foreign Affair is a world tour. European and US fans – get ready for something special.

The Melbourne leg was held at the Forum to a packed audience of colourful super fans. 80s pastels and coiffed hair were the order of the evening. Unfortunately I missed the starting performance by Muki but I did arrive in time to find discover a new act, Total Giovanni.  The Melbourne band had the audience in raptures with their playful style and flamboyantly subtle hip thrusts that put us all in a heightened state of arousal. What a warm up act! Maybe we’ll get to see them at St Kilda Festival some time as well.

Client Liaison provided their Melbourne fans with a show. It was simply fabulous and by the end of the three hour gig we were all feeling it like queens.
