North-side brunch enthusiasts rejoice! Clayton & Me has opened its doors in Reservoir, serving up brekky favourites with a Mediterranean flair, and a whole bowl of playful childhood memories.
Clayton & Me is the child (quite literally) of Angelo Pace. Pace’s vision was to open a trendy brunch spot with quality food and playful childish vibes inspired by his five-year-old son, Clayton. Pace didn’t want his youngest son Micha to feel left out, so the café became ‘Clayton & Me’, a homage to both sons.
The café has a bright and inviting atmosphere with large windows, sweeping white walls decorated with photos of Clayton and Micha, and a blue tile backdrop. The space is sizable with a quaint courtyard outback covered in a blue and yellow dinosaur mural – an ode to Clayton’s favourite toy.
Clayton & Me serves up modern Australian fare, whilst maintaining the Mediterranean cultural roots of Reservoir and the North. You’ll find dishes like chargrilled polenta wedged between oversized bronze field mushrooms, crispy kale chips, beetroot hummus, and a poached egg, or slow cooked lamb drizzled in tzatziki, wrapped in a pita with a side of sweet potato chips.
If you’re after an Instagram shot, we suggest the ricotta hotcakes. It’s served up with a heaping plume of pink fairy floss perched atop bronze hotcakes drizzled in burnt marshmallow chocolate sauce.
Head chef Luke Hawkins (ex Naughty Boy and Satoria) knows a thing or two about food and has mastered the blending of Australian and Mediterranean flavours.
Coffee fiends will appreciate brews from Code Black Coffee Roasters, with a range of smoothies, chai, and tea available for the not-so-caffeinated.
The café offers free WiFi (freelancers celebrate!) and lends itself to business lunches & corporate meetings for those situated in Melbourne inner northern suburbs.
