Mornington Peninsula Racecourse’s Food & Wine Spectacular

The Mornington Peninsula, just a 50 minute drive from Melbourne, has always held a soft spot for me. My last proper adventure there entailed a horseback winery tour (yes, I debated whether these two should be paired) along with a dip in the Peninsula Hot Springs. I actually wasn’t aware that there was a racecourse that plays a vital role for the area’s tourism industry. The Mornington Peninsula Racecourse has recently undergone a $5 million redevelopment. I wasn’t sure what it was like before, but it’s now a first-class entertainment venue.

The member’s area sports gorgeous panoramic views of the green track and will, no doubt, be put to good use during spring racing season. How do you become a member, I wonder…?

One of the key aims of the redevelopment was to create a culinary space to showcase Mornington’s local produce and businesses. The team was keen to ensure the local community benefited from their efforts. We can now say that there’s even more of a reason to become a member!

The night was splendour times two. Walking over from the carpark, we were greeted by a giant knife and fork playing the saxophone and tuba, respectively. Yep. Delicious Mornington-based pinots and cheeses greeted us at the entrance of the member’s area along with some sweet soulful tunes from the live band. As we gorged on plump oysters, melt-in-your-mouth lamb, shredded crab burgers, and truffle risotto we all felt truly thankful.

The team put forward their best foot with their food offering and provided the finest of what Mornington had to offer. If you’re making a day of it in Mornington: beach, hot springs, wineries, and now the racecourse for a lunch/dinner can now be added to your trip for an ideal itinerary.
