Comedy Festival: Andrew McClelland – We Really Must Do This Again Sometime

Andrew McClelland has a distinct knack for easing you into an evening of classy tunes, refined humour, and smart observations, that you leave feeling inclined to follow the instructions of his closing number. ‘We Really Must Do This Again Sometime’ is both the title of this year’s showcase, and also the summary of the satisfaction of seeing McClelland own the stage with his exquisitely presented material and upbeat musical interludes.

The material is fantastic, with the commentary of the shenanigans of his partner’s ongoing Sims 2 virtual world a particular highlight. However, it is the vehicle in which the material is delivered that makes this show so delightful. McClelland is a happy performer; somebody who is naturally a charismatic person enjoying his own show, the reactions, and the purpose of being up on stage and entertaining the crowd.

It is refreshing experience to see such positivity shine through an experienced performer. While there are many different approaches to style and presentations in comedy, sometimes an ongoing smile, the odd dance, and a joyful and referential song really do want you to come back for more. With McClelland’s following and reputation, and a show like this one, that is clearly what ensues.
