The Age Lunar Night Markets in Melbourne

There’s something to do in the Docklands! The Age Lunar Markets feature waterfront food stalls in celebration of Chinese New Year. The Plus Ones happily came out for a guided tour to kick off the opening night. We strolled along the Harbour Esplanade, sipping beer and wine and grazing on the goodies at the numerous food stalls. The markets are here for Chinese New Year, but there are plenty of other Asian flavours as well, including Japanese, Thai, Filipino, and Malaysian.

The Lunar Markets are from the same team that delivered the Night Noodle Markets, so they’ve got an eye for local and interstate vendors. Bao packed with fried food topped our list of favourites, with the fried mushroom at Wonderbao and the soft shelled crab at O-Bun. The spiced, refreshing papaya salad from Bangkok Street Food also received thumbs-up. For those with a sweet tooth, BlackStarPastry and N2 Gelato joined forces to dish up treats with a twist, with watermelon, poprocks, and fortune cookies on the list of ingredients.

The market runs for another ten days, so pull up your boat and grab a seat along the waterfront.
