You might have heard of a murder mystery party before. But how about a murder musical? Neither had I until I saw Thrill Me: The Leopold and Loeb Story at Chapel Off Chapel as part of Midsumma Festival.
Walking into Chapel’s Loft Theatre brought back stark memories of my high school drama days. But the quality of actors Stephen Madsen and Vincent Hooper soon removed those remaining miasmas of nostalgia.
Thrill Me is darkly humorous, sometimes psychotic and always thrilling. Madsen and Hooper held our captivation throughout – something which really impressed me as had no backups besides a single piano player.
And if you’re thinking it might be a bit like Chicago, don’t. Thrill Me ignores all of the glamour and glorification of violence of Chicago. It is dark, and gritty, and will keep you guessing until the end.

Thrill Me: The Leopold and Loeb Story runs as part of Midsumma Festival until January 31st at Chapel Off Chapel. Tickets available now.
