Make sure to check out our guide to the Melbourne Fringe Festival 2015
On Friday my Plus One and I headed to The Courthouse Hotel to pop my Fringe virginity via comic duo Amanda and Kat with their show Aussie Mixtape.
Not knowing what to expect (in part due to a vague description, but also because, well, Fringe) we settled down in the back row with a glass of wine each. On stage the girls were seated on car seats, holding an old steering wheel and making awkward road trip conversation.
To begin, the show was reminiscent of my high school Drama performances, but with far better singing (and guitar playing) ability. But it soon warmed up into a truly enjoyable, relatable and humorous show.
Aussie Mixtape is an ode to everything that goes wrong on a car trip, as well as the great history of Australian music. From The Eagles to Cold Chisel, Missy Elliot and the Hilltop Hoods, Aussie Mixtape had me dancing and laughing in my seat.
This show is best enjoyed with a drink in hand – trust me. And don’t be afraid to sing (and dance) along to all your favourites.

Charli W. is a creative writer, food lover, and Harry Potter aficionada in her last year of a History degree. She is sure she will find a way to combine these things one day, to great success. If not, she’ll pack up and become a bartender somewhere in the Caribbean with a fabulous year-round tan.
Aussie Mixtape runs until the 25th September at the Courthouse Hotel. This show is not accessible.
