Imagine a world where, instead of effortlessly styling your hair into something you’ll never be able to re-create at home, your stylist patiently shows you how to master making curls with a GHD. That was just one of the services on offer at Raw Element salon’s first Makeup Masterclass evening.
My +1 (Collette of AYLA Maternity) and I were part of the small gathering of women who spent their Tuesday night in Carlton learning all the tricks of the beauty industry. On hand were members of the Raw Element team, who specialised in different areas of fashion and beauty. We visited several of the stations set up throughout the salon. One of my favourites was learning about the hottest new trends in hair. (It’s all about long length for summer — so grow out those lobs, ladies!) Guest makeup artist Melonie Santos showed guests how to do everything from eyeshadow application to contouring, and convinced me I need to give a smokey eye another go.
Alternating glasses of bubbles with mocktails, we nibbled away on sandwiches — then devoured the adorable cupcakes cake pops when they came out at the end of the evening. But far and away the best part of the night was when I finally mastered giving myself curls with a GHD. For 20 minutes, the stylist patiently stood behind me as I mucked up curl after curl. But suddenly, it all clicked. I levelled up. Now I’m a proper adult woman.
The first Makeup Masterclass was such a success that Raw Element is doing another one in October. This time, it’s themed around the Spring Racing Carnival. You’ll learn all the tips and tricks of how to do your hair and makeup exactly like the professionals. Believe me — if I can do it, you can, too.
