AYLA Maternity fashion launch party

On Tuesday the 12th of May AYLA Maternity launched its first locally-made collection of maternity fashion at 69 Smith Street Gallery in Fitzroy. The label uses almost exclusively Melbourne made-sustainable materials and is very much a collaboration of love.

Collette Swindells, the brain and designer behind the label, combined forces with Melbourne textile designers, pattern makers, jewellers, and even shoe makers to produce an essential and fashionable range of clothing for the pregnant ladies amongst us.

The launch was a big success with the gallery packed to the rafters with onlookers and supporters. Canapés and a variety of locally brewed beers and kombucha from Good Brew Co. were served whilst a suitably pregnant model dressed to impress in the new range moved around the room. At the same time a photoshoot of the range was projected on a screen.

Even as a non-pregnant attendee I was taken by the bold print of the designs and the wonderfully soft fabric.

To put it in Collette’s words: ‘Pregnant women should have fashionable clothing options too.’ Well now they do.
