It’s the last month of summer and Melbourne is coming alive! There’s so many arts and cultural events on that we can’t even fit them into an appropriately sized post. Make sure to sign up to our newsletter so that we can keep you in the loop of Melbourne’s best happenings week by week. As a bit of a teaser, here are some of the things that we are most looking forward to.
White Night (Free) – “The event runs from 7pm to 7am, and visitors will be able to experience the visual art, exhibitions, spectacular illuminations, music, theatre, special dining experiences, film, design and performances on display in venues and major cultural institutions right across the city centre.”
St Kilda Festival (Free) – The Festival goes for over a week but Festival Sunday is what it’s all about! “The flagship event of the St Kilda Festival is Festival Sunday, held on the second Sunday in February every year. The streets of St Kilda are closed to all traffic when the cream of Australian musicians play over five music stages, while people of all ages are entertained with a vast range of performances, workshops and events, from kids’ entertainment to extreme sports demonstrations, dance classes, community activities, buskers and a whole lot more.”
Street People – Laneway Party (Free) – Get lost in an incredible tapestry of live street artists, diverse sounds of acoustic street musicians, infusing life & soul into an inner-city laneway.
– Live street art by incredible street artists
– Live buskers creating eclectic mix of music, be it bongos, guitars or cajons
– Nibbles & drinks
– A diverse & lively mix of people from the world over
Jazz Party Mondays (Free) – The Melbourne Jazz Collective has been holding free Monday night parties for some time now. Shadow Electric is the scene of February’s shenanigans.
Sidney Myer Concerts – Summer Nights In Budapest (Free) – “Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s Sidney Myer Free Concerts, presented in association with the University of Melbourne, are the perfect soundtrack to summer in the city, bringing together timeless music and great artists against the backdrop of sunset at one of Melbourne’s most iconic outdoor venues.”
Whatever you get up to in February, make sure that it involves as much time as possible outside. Summer will be over before we know it. In the meantime, Carpe Aestas! Seize the summer!
