Take That’s return to Australia on Wednesday, 6 November, at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena was nothing short of a spectacle. My Plus One and I were beyond excited for their first live show in Melbourne since 2017, and they did not disappoint. The moment Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, and Howard Donald hit the stage, it was clear they still have the magic that made them pop royalty in the ’90s.
Sophie Ellis-Bextor warmed up the crowd in flawless fashion. Her set was pure perfection. When she belted out “Murder on the Dancefloor,” we were instantly transported back to the early 2000s. Sophie was an ideal choice as the opening act, bringing a sense of fun and energy that set the tone for the night. Her style and charisma is unmatched and he had everyone on their feet.
From the moment Take That stormed up the stairs mid-stage, it was a celebration of the ages. “Pray” sent the crowd into a frenzy, with fans belting out the lyrics. While their latest album This Life made an appearance in the setlist, it was the throwbacks that really had the crowd singing at the top of their lungs. “Back For Good” was a clear highlight, with the entire arena coming together to sing every word.
What really made the night stand out, though, was the connection between the band and the crowd. Gary, Mark, and Howard were more than just performers—they were mates who genuinely seemed to be enjoying the show as much as the audience. It felt less like a big arena gig and more like an intimate hangout. Their warmth and energy created an atmosphere that was fun and welcoming.
For someone who loves 90s music, this was a perfect trip down memory lane. Take That brought the right mix of nostalgia and fresh hits, proving that their magic hasn’t faded one bit. If you ever get the chance to see them live, take it. This tour is an absolute blast
