Richard O’Brien’s iconic Rocky Horror Show made a triumphant return to Melbourne during its 50th Anniversary tour, treating audiences to an unforgettable night at the intimate Athenaeum Theatre. The Plus Ones had the pleasure of attending the premiere, where we were immersed in a world of decadence, seduction, and unforgettable performances.
Jason Donovan reprised the role after 25 years, as the charismatic Frank N Furter, delivering a performance that left the audience spellbound. Donovan’s portrayal was captivating, and he clearly relished every moment on stage, seducing the audience with his magnetic presence.
Joel Creasey stole the show as the Narrator, infusing the performance with sass-filled banter and saucy remarks that kept the audience engaged from start to finish. His quick wit and interaction with the audience added an extra layer of excitement to the already electric atmosphere.
Blake Bowden and Deirdre Khoo shone as the innocent and naive Brad and Janet, while Stellar Perry and Henry Rollo brought energy and dynamism to their roles as Riff Raff and Magenta. Darcey Eagle’s portrayal of Columbia and Ellis Dolan’s representation of Eddie were also noteworthy, adding depth to the ensemble cast. Daniel Erbacher’s appearance as Rocky, Frank N Furter’s golden creation, was met with applause and delight, completing the stellar lineup of performers.
As tradition dictates, the night ended with a rousing ovation followed by the audience dancing in the aisles to the infectious beats of the Time Warp. It was a fitting finale to a night filled with laughter, excitement, and a healthy dose of nostalgia.
Don’t miss your chance to witness Jason Donovan’s riveting and raunchy performance before the show moves to Sydney. The Rocky Horror Show continues to captivate audiences with its timeless charm and infectious energy, making it a must-see for fans old and new alike.
