M3GAN: The Killer Doll Dances into Cinemas

If you think this is just another killer robot film, then think again. M3GAN first came onto our radar with the now viral TikTok dance. It was this mix of super sweet, campy horror with utterly disturbing ‘uncanny valley’ SFX that had my plus one and I counting down the days to see this new film in cinemas.

M3GAN begins in the the mountains of Oregon, where a family and their daughter Cady are involved in a tragic car accident. Cady is the sole survivor and is sent to live with her aunt Gemma, who is a roboticist at a technologically advanced toy company.

Gemma understandably has difficulty stepping into parenthood, with work being her biggest priority, and Cady struggles to cope with the loss of her parents. It’s only natural that she decides to test her latest life-like AI toy doll M3GAN, (short for Model 3 Generative ANdroid), on Cady as she thinks this will keep her safe and help her adjust to her new life.

After bringing M3GAN home, she essentially becomes a part of the family taking on many of the roles traditionally reserved for a parent. She teaches Cady life lessons, reminds her to do things, and becomes a good friend to her. This is when things start to take a very sinister turn.

M3GAN is a campy and fun horror that goes beyond the norm. While there are enough big scares to keep most horror fans happy, it’s the campy humour that really sets this film apart. With superb special effects, you’ll believe that the tech behind the M3GAN robot is coming to our homes sooner than you think. M3GAN is set to become a cult classic and is a must-see in cinemas.
