Launching in the middle of the pandemic, La Cabra has endured their fair share of challenges, but their constant focus on quality food and friendly service have brought them through the other side of the pandemic thriving.
We’ve seen La Cabra locations have been popping up around Melbourne over the past year, and the first birthday of their St Kilda location was the perfect opportunity to visit the restaurant and see what all the buzz was about!
Buy one get one free margaritas were on offer (yes please) and we indulged in a Mexican feast fit for conquistadores.
The venue is styled in vibrant, brightly coloured Mexican decor with a wall sized mural of Freida Kahlo facing a well-stocked bar. Live acoustic guitar music graced our dining experience, transporting us to Mexican villas in faraway lands.
The menu features a range of traditional Mexican plates including fajitas, enchiladas, stuffed jalapenos, and of course tacos, along with more modern fare – buffalo chicken wings, burgers and calamari. We stuck purely to the Mexican offerings and were not disappointed!
The pork belly and beef tacos were our top pick of the night! Cooked to perfection, topped with pickled vegetables, pineapple, fresh herbs, and bursting with flavour! The stuffed jalapenos were another stand out dish for those unafraid of the heat (we promise, they weren’t too hot!).
Sweets lovers must save room for the churros. Not too sweet (which is often the case elsewhere) accompanied with a finger licking delicious, condensed milk sauce. If you’re a churro lover, La Cabra is your place!
The drinks menu was equally as impressive with an extensive range of margaritas (traditional, agave, jalapeno, pink and frozen) and a range of traditional and custom cocktails. You can’t go wrong with the jalapeno margarita, or the pink margarita if you’re up for something different!
La Cabra has four locations across Melbourne including Hawthorne (the original), St Kilda, Hampton, and Carlton. Pop in for their taco Tuesday, featuring $5 tacos, $1 wing Wednesdays or their Mexican themed bottomless brunch offerings.
