The Night Noodle Markets have returned to the banks of Birrarung Marr! With 32 stalls serving up street-food from China, Vietnam, Thailand and beyond, you’ll find plenty of creative fusion food on the menu. Load up on Bao Brothers’s loaded sweet potato fries and KFC (Korean fried cauliflower). Say hola to Donburi Station’s ‘Tokyo Taco’ topped with salsa. Wrap your lips around Drumpling’s modern pepperoni pizza and truffle dumplings. Crack into a cheeseburger puffle. Or slurp up Mr. Miyagi’s cheeky ‘Saucy Noodz’ with popcorn chicken, ramen noodles, and creamy Japanese mayo.
Fan favourite are back again this year too – including Hoy Pinoy (with not one, but two stands serving their signature skewers) Gelato Messina’s frozen treats, and the instagramable flying noodles.
Dog lovers should mark their calendars for Saturday, 9 November for what’s sure to be the cutest night at the markets. Bring your pups to the Night Poodle Markets from 4-7pm for pooch portraits and treats (with 100% of proceeds going to RSPCA Victoria). And if you’re feeling lucky, swing by The Citi Lounge. There’s a prize in store if you pick the right box of noodles in a lucky-draw game.
The Night Noodle Markets first launched in 1998 and the current set-up appears to be a product of Sydney’s blue sky optimism (challenging Melburnian’s dedication to the pursuit of good food, regardless of the weather). On warm, sunny days the markets are a delight. Savory aromas waft through the air, smiling friends and couples sprawl across the hillside sharing food and drinks, and a soaring city skyline overlooks the festivities. But be warned – rainy nights require an umbrella; there is little shelter from the elements and the grounds quickly become soggy.
Grab your friends and coworkers for an eighteen day festival of flavours (and don’t forget to check the weather!)
